Makeup for film, TV and commercial shoots in Slovenia

On set, makeup is part of the production schedule. Here's how hair and makeup usually fits into a shoot day, and what a local artist needs from your production office.

What on-camera makeup has to do

Modern cameras resolve every texture, and strong lighting heats the skin within minutes. Good camera makeup is built in thin, matched layers so it reads as skin, and it's designed to be refreshed rather than reapplied: blotting and spot-correcting between takes, not piling on more powder. Izidora works for film, TV, commercial and music video productions and, when needed, stays on set for touch-ups and continuity.

A typical shoot day, from the makeup chair

  1. Call time for hair and makeup comes before talent arrives, so the station is set up and lit.
  2. Talent goes through the chair in the order of the first setup. Leads first if they're in the opening shot.
  3. Final checks on set under the actual lighting, with the director of photography if needed.
  4. Touch-ups between takes and after meals, costume changes or exterior scenes.
  5. Look changes at the points marked in the schedule.
  6. Continuity notes and photos at the end of each scene, so the look can be matched on another day.

Continuity

Scenes are rarely shot in story order. A scene that plays as one minute on screen can be shot on two different days, sometimes weeks apart. The makeup artist keeps a continuity record for each character and scene, with reference photos and notes on products and placement, so the face matches across every shot. On commercials the same applies to a single setup repeated dozens of times.

What to send before the shoot

Team for bigger productions

One artist can handle a small cast. For larger casts, background artists or tight turnarounds, Izidora brings in assistants and other makeup artists. Give the number of people in the chair and the time window, and the team is sized to fit.

Send your shoot dates, location and cast size.

FAQ

Does male talent need makeup on camera?

Almost always some: mattifying, evening out redness and under-eye shadows. Viewers won't notice the makeup, but they will notice a shiny forehead under lights.

Can you stay on set for the whole day?

Yes, on-set touch-ups and continuity support are available. Include the full shoot hours in your inquiry so the quote covers them.

Do you work on music videos?

Yes, music videos are part of the production work Izidora takes on.
